Praia Albufeira

Local fishermen once used this beautiful beach to pull their boats above the tideline. Today, the wide section of sand is a popular spot for all the classic beach day activities. The water is clear, albeit a bit cold, but that makes it all the better on scorching hot days. You can rent sunbeds and umbrellas for a reasonable price, and the shore is lined with bars, cafes, and restaurants.

Praia da Galé

Praia da Galé is one of the best beaches in The Algarve. If you are wondering how to best get a taste of the local life in Albufeira, be sure to check out this golden stretch of sand. It’s much less crowded than some other beaches in town, but it’s not for lack of things to do.

The east end of the beach consists of shallow waters, striking rock formations, and even some caves that you can explore! The west end of the beach is more like a classic beach, with vast expanses of soft sand and swaying palm trees. This is also a popular area for watersports like jet skiing and surfing. Praia da Falésia

Praia da Falésia is often considered one of the best beaches in the entire world. The name is well deserved (picture a mini–Grand Canyon in front of the ocean), and that’s basically Praia da Falésia. Walking along the sand will give you a sense of how massive the cliffs are, and their orange hues contrast spectacularly with the blue water and green pine trees that line them.

In addition to the breathtaking views, Praia da Falésia offers visitors a wide array of beach day activities. Beachcombing, sea glass hunting, and clamming are popular during low tide. You could also hike up the cliffs and take in epic views from above. Beach games and watersports are other popular pastimes, including diving, surfing, and paragliding.

Praia da Oura

Praia da Oura is especially popular with young travelers, likely due to its location near the famous Strip. But there’s something for every type of traveler along this scenic stretch, including beautiful clear water for swimming and watersports like diving, jet skiing, and of course, the banana boat. There are also some caves and coves to explore as well. Once the sun sets, you can head to The Strip and keep the party going until the early morning.

Praia da Coelha

Small yet beautiful, Praia da Coelha is a hidden gem that should be on every traveler’s bucket list. The beach is surrounded by cliffs and other interesting rock formations, which protects it from strong winds and currents. The calm, clear waters are ideal for swimming and snorkeling, and the shell-littered shoreline is excellent for beach combing. You could also hike up to the top of the cliff and catch a sunset as you take in the spectacular views.

Praia do Castelo

Praia do Castelo is a small beach that rarely gets overly crowded. Unsurprisingly, this is a popular spot amongst locals who try to avoid the large swaths of tourists that come with the busy summer months. There is one main beach area and some small coves and hidden corners. In addition to soaking up some sun in solitude, Praia do Castelo is an excellent spot for swimming, thanks to the cliffs that surround it and protect it from big gusts.
