9 St. Lucia Activities for an Unforgettable Visit August 1, 2022
Famed for its beautiful sandy shores, majestic mountains, and vibrant Caribbean flair, St. Lucia is a tropical oasis for beach bums and adventurers alike. You can relax at one of the luxury resorts or soak in the island’s geothermal mud baths.
Those who like a little more adventure can traverse some epic hiking trails or explore the abundance of underwater life off the coast. There are so many fun St. Lucia activities that you may actually have trouble nailing down an itinerary. That’s where we come in. Below you’ll find the ultimate guide to all the best things to do in St. Lucia.
1. Hit the Beach
No trip to St. Lucia would be complete without spending exorbitant amounts of time at the beach. There are tons of beautiful stretches of sand around the island, and whether you’re looking for a quiet cove or the beach with the best views, you’ll have plenty of options.
Jalousie Beach (also known as Sugar Beach) is one of the most popular beaches on the island. From the beautiful white sand to the epic views of the famous Pitons, you’ll love Sugar Beach. You’ll find some of the best snorkeling in St. Lucia just to the right of the beach as well.
Of course, a lot of people love this scenic spot, so if you’re looking for a more secluded beach, you may have better luck at Anse Cochon or Anse Mamin.
The secluded beach at Calabash Cove Resort & Spa is a true hidden gem, and even if you’re not staying at this luxurious resort you can use the stunning beach here for free as no beaches on the island are private.
2. The Sulphur Spring Mud Baths
For a satisfying mix of relaxation and adventure, make your way to the Sulphur Springs mud baths. Located on the island’s southwest coast, the Sulphur Springs Park is rife with geothermal activity. Taking a dip in the mud baths in the park is one of the most satisfying St. Lucia activities, and you can do so alone or with a guide.
They have buckets of mud that come straight from underground for visitors to place on their body before they head into the volcanic pools. There are several sulfur pools of varying temperatures to relax in while you wipe the mud off yourself. You’ll notice your skin will be instantly softer. Just be sure to wear a dark bathing suit or it will likely get ruined by the volcanic mud!
3. Pigeon Island National Park and Fort Rodney
Set across a 44-acre islet in St. Lucia’s northern Gros Islet, Pigeon Island National Park is one of the most important landmarks on the island. There is so much to do in this small area, and discovering it is one of the best St. Lucia activities. From the pirate stories and abandoned whaling operations to the remains of Fort Rodney and the hiking trails that run through them, Pigeon Island has a little something for everyone.
The hike up to Signal Hill will be a bit over a mile and quite steep. If that’s not on the cards for you, just hike up to Fort Rodney which is about halfway. The hike is short and easy and you’ll still get great views of Rodney Bay with a bit of a history lesson.
After an afternoon of exploring, you can head down to one of the park’s two secluded beaches for a warm ocean dip. The second beach has some great snorkeling just past the small pier and after exploring Pigeon Island all day, you’ll be sure to have a big appetite! Luckily you won’t have to go too far to satisfy it. The second beach has an excellent cafe right on the water where you can get a midday drink and some tasty local bites.
4. Marigot Bay
Marigot Bay is one of the most beautiful areas on the island. So much so that it attracted the attention of Hollywood in the 1960s. This is the spot where Doctor Dolittle was filmed in 1967, and even if you’re not a movie buff you are sure to appreciate the classic Caribbean scenery.
You can take in the views from one of the lookout points on the highway or from the water shuttle if you are traveling here by boat. If you didn’t arrive at the bay by boat, you’ll have to take a water taxi to the little beach area.
Once you land in the bay, you can try to find a spot on the sand, though the beach here is pretty tiny. You could also rent a kayak or check out the Doolittle Restaurant and the Roots Beach Bar.
5. The Pitons
The iconic vistas of the towering Gros and Petit Pitons can be seen from various points around St. Lucia. However, if you’re looking for one of the more exhilarating St. Lucia activities, you can attempt to climb these domineering peaks. The Petit Piton and Gros Piton hiking trails are EXTREMELY difficult.
Even if you are in good shape, the technical aspects make these routes feel more like mountain climbing than hiking. Hiking with a guide is strongly recommended, and is required for the Gros Piton hike. A great alternative would be the Tet Paul Nature Trail–a short and sweet trek with incredible views along the hillsides between the Pitons.
If hiking is not your cup of tea, you could also book a helicopter ride to get a closer view of the Pitons. Taking a sea tour is also a great option–you’ll be able to take in epic views of the Pitons from the water.
Lastly, if you’re driving around the island, the country has made convenient viewpoints along the road for you to stop off and enjoy the legendary vistas of these peaks as well. So, as you can see, there’s no shortage of ways to enjoy the Pitons!

6. Scuba Diving and Snorkeling
The views below the water rival those from above the surface, making snorkeling and scuba diving one of the best St. Lucia activities. Marine life is abundant off the island’s coast, especially in the Anse Chastanet Marine National Park.
The plateau here is a treasure trove of colorful corals and sponges. Tons of tropical fish swim through the area, including parrotfish, trumpetfish, sergeant majors, and many more. Other top spots for scuba diving and snorkeling on St. Lucia include the northern section of Soufriere Beach, Sugar Beach, and Anse Cochon Beach, though the list is non-exhaustive.
Your resort will be able to help you book this activity around St. Lucia, so just ask!
7. Gros Islet Street Party
8. Sunset Cruise
Booze, a cruise, and an epic sunset–what’s not to love?! Taking a sunset cruise while sipping on a rum punch or an ice-cold Piton beer is almost a right of passage while visiting St. Lucia! This is something else your resort will help you book so you won’t have to lift a finger.
You’ll get shuttled to the pier and quickly set sail out on Rodney Bay on a gorgeous catamaran. The drinks will be flowing, snacks are provided, and of course, Caribbean music and maybe even a steel drummer will be playing on deck while the sun sets before you.
9. Calabash Cove Resort & Spa
The Calabash Cove Resort & Spa is one of the top resorts in St. Lucia. Renowned for its luxurious offerings and an adults-only policy, there are few places on the island that can rival Calabash Cove when it comes to top-notch amenities. All of the cottages and suites boast impeccable ocean views, and the bars and restaurants serve up tantalizing meals. Top tip–you may want to upgrade to the all-inclusive option here!
The resort also has an infinity pool, a private beach, and lush gardens where you can soak up the amazing ocean views. You can also book relaxing spa treatments, try your hand at ocean kayaking, or go for a nature hike.

Just book ahead with the concierge and choose from having your dinner out on the beach, at the gazebo, on the pier, or even in your room on your balcony. You’ll get a customized three-course meal with prosecco and even a personal waiter.
